Robot Waiter

By: Sean Yoon

What is a robot waiter?

Robot waiters are exactly what it sounds like: a robot that brings
food to your table. Robot waiters were popularized during the COVID
pandemic when close contact to people was not encouraged, and in order
to deliver food safely to tables, robot waiters were used. They can
also be used to take back dirty dishes. Robot waiters usually have
a screen as a face and display bright emoticon facial expressions to customers.

How do they work?

The robot has a menu screen, a keypad for ordering food, and
a bluetooth module. The bluetooth module is used to control the
robot from a distance. The menu screen displays the menu. It uses
sensors all around to detect obstacles, people, tables, or other
robot waiters. The sensors are also used to count the table that
they are to serve to. The robot uses wheels and wireless controls to move.
